Girl:
COSTUME 1: Dark Costume:
Due to the Alternative Genre; the two costume ideas i will be influenced by the Actress/Singer, and model 'Taylor Momsen' she is the lead singer and lead guitarist of the band 'The Pretty Reckless' which is featured in the Alternative Rock genre.
Her style is stereotpyical for the genre i am specifing in; the dark eye make up, slender petite figure, long hair and dark black clothes - it deffinetly reflects the connotations veiwers have to the Alternative Genre.
As you can see by the featured pictures of Taylor Momsen; her style is dark, black, gothic and provocative by revealing certain aspects of her body which may seem as 'slutty' this can be supported by theorists Laura Mullvey's 'Male Gaze' that Taylor is dressing the way she does to be 'attractive' or 'sexy' for her audience.
Her make up consists of heavy black eye make up, pale faced, sometimes adding black or dark lipstick but majority of her make up will focus on her eyes. Her hair is long and tangled - giving off the 'trashy' 'messy' look. Her clothes are dark, black, Gothic, her legs or cleavage are usually on show, either shorts, long tops, revealing dresses or ripped jeans. She usually wears black heeled boots or boots. Her jewelry are long necklaces - crosses, chains or chokers and bracelets - all black or silver to add to her rock style.
COSTUME 2: Colourful Costume:
Although Taylor is normally perceived as a dark Gothic dresser; she can also dress in a 'girly' way too. She is seen in colourful clothes, fresh faced; natural make up and short hair - this shows a younger Taylor; probably before becoming the lead singer of the Alternative Rock band 'The Pretty Reckless'.
Her natural 'girly' style is colourful, feminine and cute. Her clothes are normally dresses which are bright and vibrant - like orange, yellow, white. Her make up is natural; sun-kissed, little eye make up - eye liner, eye shadow and mascara, with added blusher and bronze to give her cheeks a glow. She only puts lip gloss on her lips to add to the natural look. Being a stereotypical girly girl; linked to
theorist Tessa Perkins and her theory of
Stereotypes. By the girly girl stereotypical look of natural make-up and colourful, cute, feminine clothes.
COSTUME 1 & 2 can be linked to
theorist Levi Strauss and his theory of '
Binary Opposites' by the use of the two different costumes; how they are contrasting each other and are opposite. The audience will understand the connotations by the use of colour and typical stereotypes. The dark costume the audience will understand the narrative by representing nagative connotations by the use of black and gothic clothing; and like wise for the colourful vibrant costume. The fact there is a change in the costume; the audience will understand the development of the narrative.
COSTUME 3: PJ/Bed Costume
For the bed costume, i decided to stick to plain block colours (like the featured pictures) and have the girl in a long male plain top with plain shorts underneath. This is so the audience will think the top is her boyfriend's who will be featured in the video.
